Dog Sledding

We were home to the famous Rideau Lakes Cup Dog Sled Races, hosted in the village of Newboro in the Township of Rideau Lakes, up until the successful 2013 event. Organizers then decided to end on a high note and discontinue the races. Many races had to be cancelled over the years due to incompatible weather conditions.  The main races were a mid-distance, 25-kilometre race run for six-dog sleds. There are also skijoring races where a skier is pulled by two dogs. Both races are accredited through the Federation of Sled Dog Sports.

The first Rideau Cup Races were held in 2008 and helped celebrate the designation of the Rideau Canal as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
