Singer Castle (also known as Jorstadt Castle) on Dark Island: Visit www.singercastle.com From the Canadian side this island can be seen in the distance from Brown's Bay Beach and Picnic Area.

Boldt Castle and Yacht House on Heart Island (Thousand Island Bridge Authority): Visit www.boldtcastle.com

Zavikon Island, near Rockport, is a pair of islands with the larger being in Canada and the smaller in the U.S. but a Zavikon Island is known as smallest international bridgesmall foot bridge that connects them is considered the smallest international bridge in the world. It's part of the Canadian territory and within Leeds Grenville. As the image at left indicates, it's only 32 feet long and the Canadian-American border runs through its centre.

Thousand Islands International Bridge. a multi-span structure, was built in 1938 and is over 7.5-miles long and crosses over five different areas of water linking Ontario, Canada, to New York State, United States, including Canada's Hill Island and the American Wellesley island. If heading on to the U.S. side remember to bring your passport.

Johnstown-Ogdensburg International Bridge spans the St. Lawrence River at Johnstown on the Canadian side and Ogdensburg, New York State, on the American side.

Some background: This is also an area rich in history because this portion of Ontario, formerly Upper Canada, acted as a base for British troops during the 18th and 19th centuries. This year is the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 between Canada and our American neighbours. See the link above. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the 1000 Islands region grew into a popular summer resort. Many people came to the area and built homes and mansions. Many exist today, including some famous castles now known as international landmarks, including those castles listed above
